Al-Lahham holds talks with Algerian officials on bilateral cooperation in light of current circumstances

ALGIERS,(ST)_Speaker of the People’s Assembly [Parliament] has discussed with Speaker of National Popular Council the recent development in the region and bilateral ties.

Mohammad Jihad al-Lahham briefed Mohammad al-Arabi Weld Khalifa on what is going on in Syria and how regional and neighboring states have facilitated infiltration of terrorists into Syria and provided them with money and weapons.

Algeria’s experience in combatting terrorism was also reviewed during today’s gathering.

Al-Lahham indicated the double-standard policy in implementing the UN Security Council resolutions on counter-terrorism, stressing that the U.S. built a coalition against terrorism outside the framework of these resolutions.

“The coalition includes states that have hostile stances towards Syria,” the Speaker said.

He emphasized the importance of continuous cooperation and coordination between Syria and Algeria to confront colonialist and terrorist forces that threaten Arab people’s future.

Mohammad Jihad al-Lahham, who was speaking to journalists upon his arrival in Algiers today, talked about the historic and deep-rooted relations between the two countries. “Syria is proud of the brotherly Algerian people who achieved victory over colonialism and offered convoys of martyrs to achieve independence and build national state.”

He highly appreciated Algeria’s sincere stances towards Syria in confronting terrorist war being waged on it.

“Millions of dollars are being expended to kill the innocent Syrian people and to train and arm terrorists that came from 83 states instead of offering medicine and food to the Arab world’s people,” al-Lahham clarified.

The Speaker is paying a four-day visit to Algeria upon an official invitation by his Algerian counterpart. He is due to hold talks with Algerian officials on bilateral ties.
