DAMASCUS, (ST)- Chairman of the Damascus Chamber of Commerce, Ghassan al -Qallaa’, confirmed that there is an improvement in the total exports due to the return of industrial facilities to the cycle of production, and there is no an increase in imports from the previous year, but that there was a significant decline compared to previous years. Imports come from Russia, Italy, India and Egypt.
“In the period from 2012 until 2014, trade exchange achieved active movement in dealing with particularly Iraq, Lebanon and Iran, while the volume of exports dropped due to a stop of industrial plants for the production, pointing out that imports are also limited to the essentials,” Mr. al -Qallaa’ said.
Regarding problems facing the merchants, Mr. al -Qallaa’ explained that several obstacles including financing imports, fluctuation of prices exchange and finding the means of transport for the transfer of imports and access to Syrian ports.
The Chamber of Commerce is making cooperation with the University of Damascus, the College of Tourism and the Higher Institute for Administrative, as well as a cooperation project will be signed soon with the Faculty of Economy. This cooperation allows students to get practical knowledge that enriches their scientific expertise, Mr. al -Qallaa’ concluded.
