DAMASCUS, (ST) _ The Ministry of Health announced that the 9th national vaccination campaign against polio reached 2.6 million children under the age of five and that Hama province ranked first in terms of the number of vaccinated children while a significant increase in coverage ratios was made in Raqqa.
According to health minister Dr. Nizar Yazigi Hama province ranked first in terms of the number of children vaccinated children 325 234, followed by Damascus where 320 700 were vaccinated and 231 994 children in Hasaka.
The minister also reported an increase in the number of children vaccinated in Raqqa compared to previous campaigns where 193 107 children were vaccinated, 93 861 children in Idleb and 122 782 children in Daraa, considering that these figures reflect the great attention given by the ministry and the commitment of its employees and increased family awareness for ensuring health care to their children.
Minister Yazigi pointed to the ministry’s keenness to exert all efforts to reach and vaccine all children under five year age and give them vaccines prescribed within the national vaccination program, through the promotion of participatory approach with the public, private and civil sides concerned.
The five-day 9th national vaccination campaign was launched on October 19th in the country’s health centers and temporary residence areas, by one thousand health workers.
