Zionist entity is set to construct 1,600 new settler units in East al-Quds (Jerusalem) despite a growing international outcry over the illegal construction projects, according to Press T.V.
Israeli media say the Jerusalem Committee for Planning and Construction is scheduled to discuss the new settlement project in the Hareidi neighborhood.
The new plan comes despite widespread global condemnation of Israel’s land grab policies. Also, the US-led talks between Israel and the Palestinian authority have been stalled over the issue.
The presence and continued expansion of Israeli settlements in occupied Palestine have created a major obstacle in the way of the efforts to establish peace in the Middle East.
More than half a million Israelis live in over 120 illegal settlements built since Israel’s occupation of the Palestinian territories of the West Bank and East al-Quds.
The UN and most countries regard the Israeli settlements as illegal because the territories were captured by Israel in the 1967 war and are hence subject to the Geneva Conventions, which forbid construction on occupied lands.
Zionist entity violating all terms of cease-fire deal
On the other hand, the Zionist regime has violated the terms of a recent ceasefire deal and other truce accords it reached with Palestinians in recent decades, a US-based political analyst tells Press TV.
Ramzy Baroud, editor of the Palestine Chronicle, said in an interview with Press TV that Israeli forces were “violating all terms” of the truce deal that put an end to the regime’s 50-day war on the Gaza Strip in August.
The commentator further stressed that the agreements with Israel have given nothing but a great deal of “absolute misery and suffering” to the Palestinians.
He went added that any assurances on achieving peace with the Tel Aviv regime were merely “empty words.”
According to Baroud, the Israeli regime has constantly “victimized” the Gazans and continues to deny their rights.
Israeli has launched three major military offensives against the besieged Palestinian enclave since 2008 to perpetrate “massacre and genocide,” the analyst stated, adding, “Israel is not dedicated to peace and comfort in Gaza.”
Israel unleashed aerial attacks on Gaza in early July and later expanded its military campaign with a ground invasion of the Palestinian strip. Over 2,130 Palestinians, including around 570 children, lost their lives and some 11,000 were injured in the raids.
