GENEVA- Staffan de Mistura, the United Nations Special Envoy for Syria, has called for respecting the rules of the international law as the Syrian state’s sovereignty and land safety.
De Mistura, who made the remarks yesterday, urged the Turkish government to allow Kurdish volunteers and their equipment to enter Ein al-Arab city (Kobani) as to contribute to the self- defense operations and join the Syrian Kurds who are defending the city against the terrorists of the so-called “Islamic State in Iraq and Levant (ISIL) who seek capturing and controlling the entire city.
The UN official warned that the people of Ein al-Arab could be exposed to a massacre and or horrible humanitarian disaster if ISIL terrorist organization captures the city.
He reiterated that any action should be consistent with international law and based on respecting the Syrian sovereignty.
