Egypt: Erdogan’s Support for Terrorists in Syria, Iraq Can’t Be Tolerated

CAIRO-Egypt has stressed that Turkish President Recepe Trayyib Erdogan’s support for the terrorists in Syria and Iraq can’t be tolerated.

In a statement on Monday, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said “the world can’t keep silent over Erdogan’s interference in other countries’ internal affairs and over his persistence in providing all forms of support to terrorist organizations and groups to disseminate chaos and cause damage to the peoples of the region as he did in Syria, Iraq and Libya.”

“This interference poses threat to international peace and security,” the ministry added, urging the international community and the United Nations to put an end to the Turkish behavior in this respect.

 The ministry’s statement, which also criticized Erdogan’s speech at the International Economic Forum regarding the situation in Egypt, said “everyone following up the internal developments in Turkey can conclude that Erdogan, who claims being a democracy sponsor and a defender of the so-called Arab Spring revolutions has nothing to do with real democracy and he is not in a position allowing him to give lessons to others on how to be democratic.”

The ministry added that Erdogan’s policy over the past years has been based on imposing restrictions on the freedom of speech and on using excessive force against political activists and peaceful demonstrators.

“These incessant violations and undemocratic practices have stripped the Turkish president from any moral or political justification to claim defending democracy,” the ministry clarified.
