MOSCOW, (ST) – Syria’s ambassador to Russia, Dr. Riad Haddad underlined that Syria possesses large business and industrial expertise and is able today to go ahead despite the western unjust economic blockade targeting the Syrian people.
The Ambassador’s speech came during a meeting held with the heads of Syrian companies participated in the International Exhibition of Food Industry in Moscow during his visit to the Syrian pavilion where he heard from the officials of the participating companies in the exhibition to their suggestions and their questions to be discussed later with the concerned authorities in the two countries.
Dr. Haddad called for the need to hold a meeting between Syrian businessmen in Russia and representatives of Russian commercial sector in order to activate the work between the two sides.
The officials of Syrian companies called the Russian side to remove the obstacles that hinder the process of the development of trade exchange with Russia, especially in the field of shipping licenses, pricing of goods according to the tariff and the abolition of tariff protection between the two countries.
“Syria is an ancient country with its culture, history, economic and trade tradition, we will work to transfer all the notes and the difficulties that hinder the development of trade exchange between Syria and Russia to the concerned authorities in both countries to overcome them through the joint government commission and open markets between the two countries,” Dr. Haddad said.
He pointed to the unjust economic blockade by the west that targeted people’s livelihood and contributed to prevent the arrival of essential items to them, stressing that the Syrian government looking for ways to overcome the effects of these sanctions on the citizen who pays a high price.
The Syrian government, he added, established and strengthened economic ties with friendly countries; especially Russia is a big country that accommodates all our exports.
A Syrian businessman, Moataz El -Sakka, said in a statement that the Syrian exporters insisted on participating in the exhibition with the aim to identify the global markets and contribute to the consolidation of Syrian-Russian relations, calling to activate the governmental commission between Russia and Syria and take their role in overcoming these difficulties.
Mr. el -Sakka confirmed that the demand for Syrian products came as a surprise to us what confirms that the Syrian goods are still carrying a new stamp at the Russian market, expressing confidence that the Syrian industry will return through the re-building of factories again and reviving the markets.
The International Exhibition for Food Industries was opened recently in Moscow under the slogan, “How the Russian food market should operate” with the participation of more than 1.600 food and agricultural industries from 73 countries in the world, including the Syrian companies.
