Foreign Ministry warns against possible chemical attack by terrorists to justify aggression on Syria

DAMASCUS,(ST)_Foreign and Expatriates Ministry has warned against possible chemical weapons attack by terrorist groups in the ongoing fighting with the aim of blaming the Syrian army for it and justifying premeditated aggression on Syria.

The ministry clarified in a statement released on Sunday that regional and international sides, which are conspiring against Syria, might provide armed terrorist organizations with chemical weapons to use it against our people in order to blame the Syrian Arab army for the attack and to fabricate an excuse for carrying out a premeditated aggression on Syria and its steadfast people.

“Following the Syrian Arab army’s achievements in fighting terrorist groups in the Eastern Ghouta of Damascus and in northern countryside of Hama as well as in other areas, some regional and international sides plus their terrorist tools that are hostile to Syria issued allegations about the possibility of the use of chemical weapons by the Syrian army in its military operations,” the statement read.

Repeatedly, Syrian Arab Republic said that it would never, under any circumstances, use chemical weapons.

Similar scenario

The statement reminded of a similar scenario used in Khan al-Assal outside Aleppo and in the Eastern Ghouta of Damascus last year, adding that Syria’s response to the Russian President Vladimir Putin’s 2013 initiative foiled the premeditated aggression on Syria then.

In addition, the ministry said that Syria has fulfilled its commitments within the framework of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) and it has become free of this type of weapons after its full cooperation with the joint mission of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) and the United Nations.

The ministry called on the international community to focus on fighting terrorism and to press those who support terrorism to stop arming, training and sheltering terrorists in order to preserve peace and security in the region and the world.
