Jaafari: Confronting Daesh requires confronting Wahhabi Intellectual Sources

NEW YORK,(ST)_ The UN Security Council has called for strengthening and expanding the process to support Iraq against Daesh terrorist organization and affiliated groups.

In a statement adopted in a meeting on Iraq yesterday, attended by 40 countries, the UNSC condemned “the attacks launched by terrorist organizations, in Iraq, Syria and Lebanon,” stressing that this large-scale attack constitutes a major threat to the region.

The statement stressed the need for the participation of all Iraqi social segments in the political process and called for an inter- political Iraqi dialogue.

Jaafari: any international effort to combat terrorism must honor international law, sovereignty of States

In a speech during the meeting, Syria’s permanent representative to the UN Dr. Bashar al-Jaafari said that the main issue is to provide assistance to the governments and peoples of Iraq and Syria against Daesh and al-Nusra front and affiliated organizations, according to the provisions of UNSC resolution 2170.

“The war in Iraq and Syria in the fight against terrorism is but one war against the same enemy and people in both countries who are victims of the same terror.” Jaafari said adding that the Syrian government is an essential part in the fight against Daesh and al-Nusra Front terrorism, which Syria has been fighting alone over the past three years.

“The international awakening about the dangers of Daesh and al-Nusra front terrorism is a source of satisfaction for us, even came late, “ Jaafari said, reiterating that any international effort to combat terrorism must be within the context of full respect for the provisions of the international law, especially honoring sovereignty of States which eventually requires prior coordination with the Syrian government in any serious effort to combat terrorism.
