The Minister reviewed the situation of the electric sector in light of the global war against Syria and the systematic targeting of electricity transmitting lines, and related facilities by armed terrorist organizations, stressing that the Ministry has taken exceptional steps to ensure electrical services for all citizens, noting that the UN noble role should focus on drying the sources of terrorism and holding its sponsors, supporters accountable, thus alleviate the suffering of the victims of terrorism.

Heemstra said that the program has modified its agenda in Syria to respond to priorities set by the Syrian government as a result of the crisis, in the context of Syria’s launching of the reconstruction phase.

He proposed a project that contributes to the improvement of electricity services in Syria, through the Japanese Agency for International Cooperation (JICA) ‘s provision of necessary spare parts for power plants and needed technical support in coordination between the UNDP and the Ministry of Electricity.
