Syrian, Belarusian Railway Cooperation

DAMASCUS, (ST)- The Minister of Transport, Dr. Ghazwan Kheirbeik recently met here the  Ambassador of Belarus Alexander Ponomarev and underlined the importance of activating the agreements signed between the two countries, especially on rail and air transport and the possibility of benefiting from the expertise of Belarus in the field of transport.

The minister expressed Syria’s commitment to the agreements signed between the two countries including the agreement signed between them in 2004 in the field of road transport and the tripartite agreement in 2008 between Belarus and Venezuela, Russia, and the last agreement in the field of air transport in 2008, pointing to the need for coordination between the two sides for the study of these agreements and the amendment of what is necessary to put them into practice in order to facilitate the process of transport between them.

For his part, Ponomarev asserted his country’s readiness to provide support and assistance in this area, especially to have a great experience in the field of railway transport and manufacturing of locomotives, considering that the activation of cooperation in the field of transport contributes to the development of bilateral relations between the two countries.
