RUSSIA,(ST)- Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov said that ” The US inclusion of Jabhat al-Nusra group in its international terrorist groups list proves Washington’s admission of the terrorist threats against Syria,” said the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov on Thursday, on his account on Twitter.
He added that the heart of the matter lies in making a distinction between the terrorist groups and other opposition groups in Syria, considering that these groups adopt common stances, a fact revealed from their boycott of political dialogue.
For his part, deputy speaker of the Russian Duma council Vladimir Vasyliev said that the Russian government will continue a policy supporting a peaceful settlement for the crisis in Syria.
Meeting a delegation from the British House of Commons headed by, Richard Ottaway, on Thursday in Moscow, Vasyliev added that ” the Russian position to this end , has always been transparent, clear and firm. “
He indicated that Russia follows up the situation in Syria closely, besides the deployment of patriot missiles on the Turkish borders with Syria.
Meantime, the Russian Ambassador to Lebanon Alexander Zasypkin renewed his country’s call for a political solution to the crisis in Syria through dialogue among all sides in Syria, noting that the statement of the International work group in Geneva constitutes the political solution.
“The large part of the Syrian people, who are suffering daily from the danger of the armed terrorist groups want violence to be halted and support the political solution,” Zasypkin said in an interview with Lebanese al-Manar TV Channel aired on Thursday.
He added that the political solution can be achieved through the acceptance of all sides of Geneva statement , because it constitutes a compromise and provides for a transitional phase which should be unconditioned.
The Russian Ambassador criticized the Turkish government’s attempt to militarize the border with Syria through deploying Patriot missiles, asserting that ” the existence of the arms on the border is very dangerous.”
On the military cooperation between Syria and Russia, Zasypkin stressed that the military contracts finalized between his country and Syria are in line with the international law, asserting that Russia doesn’t violate the international treaties in implementation of these contracts as they only include defensive means.
