Mouallem: Syria is ready to coordinate with the international community in the fight against terrorism

MOSCOW, (ST)_ Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Walid al-Mouallem discussed with the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in a telephone conversation developments of the situation in Syria and possibilities of finding a political solution to its crisis.

In a statement today, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that the two sides “exchanged in this regard views on potential formulas that permit the resumption of efforts in order to reach internal reconciliation in Syria,” noting that the two sides stressed that the situation in Syria can be only resolved  “through political and diplomatic means.”

The Russian Foreign Ministry pointed out that the two ministers also discussed recent events in Syria in light of the increasing terrorist threat against it and the region as a result of crimes committed by terrorists of the so-called “State of Iraq and the Levant” terrorist organization.

Moreover, Minister Mouallem stressed Syria’s willingness to coordinate its steps in the fight against terrorism with the representatives of the international community closely with the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution No. /2170/.
