DAMASCUS,(ST)_ Dr. Wael Halaqi charged with forming a new government said that the General Federation of Women (GFW) has proven effective since its inception in contributing to raising awareness of Syrian women and developing their capabilities in all areas, noting that Syrian women are still the basis of building the nation and community.
In a meeting yesterday with members of the GFW Executive Office, al-Halaqi pointed to the GFW contribution in developing projects in the countryside, resulted in enhancing rural women contribution to social and economic development.
He pointed to the important tasks rested on Syrian women at this stage to confront the destructive and devastating intellectual and cultural invasion of the community.
He indicated the key role of people’s organizations and trade unions played in the face of unjust war waged against the country, noting that the reconstruction phase requires the contribution of all sides in order to implement President Bashar al-Assad taking –oath speech and make of Syria a workshop of building and reconstruction, for the promotion of national reconciliation and the eradication of terrorism.
For her part, GFW chairperson, Magda Kotait expressed union’s keenness to fulfill the assigned role and promote national cohesion and Syrian women capacity, noting the substantial support enjoyed by women in Syria.
