TEHRAN, (ST)- Deliberations of the17th Congress Parliaments of Asia and Oceania on Environment and Development began yesteray in Tehran with the participation of Syria. The event to discuss regional cooperation to protect the environment and circumstances for the development of the two continents.
The Secretary-General of the Conference who is Chairman of the Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development of the Iranian Shura Council Mohammad Reza Taizh said at the opening session of the meeting that “the legislative assemblies have to play an effective and activerole in influential institutions to raise and resolve environmental problems and economic development, and this requires collective participation and exchange of information by all member states in order to map out a comprehensive global development plans. “
The meeting will discuss regional cooperation for the protection of the environment and the special conditions for the development of Asia and Oceania and attract the attention of the parliaments of the two continents states to pass laws and to take care with the region’s crisis, the risk of wars and acts of terrorism.
It is noteworthy that the the members participating in the General Assembly meeting will visit scientific Brdesan Garden and will pay other visits for environmental reality in Iran.
Indonesia, South Korea, Nepal, Congo, Pakistan, Malaysia, Bhutan, China, Russia, Congo and India take part in the three-day event .
The first meeting of the Congress Parliaments of Asia and Oceania on Environment and Development held in 1993 in Seoul at the initiative of the Parliament of South Korea and the participation of 8 countries and the number of members of the General Assembly meeting of the Congress parliaments of Asia and Oceania is 46 countries.
