DAMASCUS,(ST)_ Some 180 gunmen from Bassima town in rural Damascus who were involved in current events, turned themselves in, with their weapons yesterday to the competent authorities to regularize their status.
According to a source at the police headquarters in rural Damascus, status of 180 insurgents from Bassima town in rural Damascus was regularized, endeavored by members of the national reconciliation committee after they vowed not to undertake any action that would prejudice the safety and security of the homeland.
This comes after five days of the turn in of 180 armed men from Zabadani, together with their weapons to the competent authorities, bringing the number of those who turned in themselves to 547 during the current month, August, from the towns of Zabadani, Bassima,Kanaker and Beit Sahm.
last June, some 99 gunmen from Kesweh and Babila towns turned in themselves and their weapons to the competent authorities, while number of militants who surrendered during May of this year reached 84 militants from al-Tel,Maloula and Jabaadin, Zakia Teiba, Almqilbah and En Beida. last April number of surrendered gunmen has reached 310, with many of them escaped compulsory military service, but the figure exceeded 500 during March, in a continuously process repeated in rural Damascus ‘s towns and villages.
