DAMASCUS, (ST) – Focus meeting, Deputy Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade, Dr. Hayan Salman, recently held a meeting with the Syrian Exporters Federation and Damascus Chamber of Commerce. The meeting focused on following up and activating the trade and economic cooperation with friendly countries, particularly the Republic of Belarus in order to open new markets for the Syrian exports.
The participants discussed the obstacles and problems faced by exporters, especially road, air and sea transport. Exporters Federation and the ministry of Transportation agreed to speed up and review this issue to facilitate the flow of exchange of goods between Syria and Belarus.
The participants also discussed the possibility of establishing a village for exports in Lattakia and study the possibility of transferring some of the products and goods by air transport. The Syrian Exporters Federation was assigned to prepare a study to be submitted to the authorities on the establishment of free zone in the port of Lattakia.
With regard to the adoption of certificates of origin to enable the Syrian products of entering the Belarusian market with 25% discount on all goods of customs duties.
The Deputy Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade, during the meeting, confirmed that a road map was mapped out for cooperation with Belarus in the economic areas in particular, and other countries to activate trade relations.
“The Syrian commodities that enjoy comparative advantages were identified and the Syrian Exporters Federation to meet directly with exporters and producers and the preparation for each of their goods and products to be exported calling on all producers to export both through the Exporters Federation or the Ministry of Economy and Foreign Trade, or via other activities and concerned stakeholders to export,” Dr. Salman added.
For his part, President of Syrian Exporters Federation Mohammed al -Sawah pointed out the his federation is ready to provide all necessary for the export of goods and products of all kinds and communicate with exporters and the establishment of training courses for them in this regard, if necessary, and work to revitalize sectors and commodities, which saw a decline during the crisis so they can be exported again, especially as the Syrian commodities are required abroad.
“The Federation is ready to help all joint business councils with regard to the process of export and benefit from the Federation’s experiences and possibilities in this regard, pointing to the importance of access to the Algerian market for being a promising market,” Mr. al –Sawah added.
Sharif al -Khatib
