The Zionist regime’s prolonged blockade of the war-torn Gaza Strip is taking its toll on many wounded Palestinians who are in urgent need of treatment outside the Palestinian enclave.
A nine-year-old Palestinian girl was admitted to Gaza’s Shifa Hospital more than three weeks ago after being paralyzed from the neck down in an Israeli airstrike.
Maha Sheikh Khalil urgently needs to be treated abroad in order to regain some of her nerve function, but she and her family are still waiting for permission from Israel to move her out of Gaza.
“I feel like I can’t do anything with my body. And when I move like this, I can’t feel my body moving,” Maha, who has lost her mother and sister in an Israeli attack, said from her hospital bed on Sunday.
Her doctor, Basil Baker, also noted that if Maha gets an infection in the hospital, it would be difficult to treat her, adding, “This means that she will be worse, and will not have any chance for any nerve recovery.”
The death toll from Israel’s deadly aggression on the besieged Gaza Strip has hit 1,942, including nearly 470 children. More than 230 of the victims are women.
Nearly 10,000 Palestinians have been injured in the Israeli offensive which began on July 8.
The Israeli army says around 65 Israelis have been killed in the conflict, but the Palestinian resistance movement puts the number at more than 150.
Zionist war continues to shatter lives of Palestinian
Weeks of almost nonstop Israeli aerial land and naval attacks on the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip has shattered the lives of hundreds of thousands of people in this tiny and blockaded enclave.
At least eighty families have perished among the thousands of people who were killed and wounded. Currently there are around a quarter of million Gazans who are displaced and have no home to return to due to the Israeli war. The US, Britain and other Western countries have provided most of the deadly weapons that have been used by Israel to commit actions that could amount to war crimes in the Gaza Strip.
The US government that helped Israel bomb thousands of homes in Gaza has only added insult to injury by sending supplies to Gazans via USAID ; an American governmental agency. The internally displaced Gazans have accused international aid agencies operating in Gaza of playing into the hands of Israel. Over a month has passed since Tel-Aviv waged a war on the civilians of Gaza while the world continues to turn a blind eye to the plight of the Palestinians in this blockaded territory.
According to the UN, internally displaced persons, or IDPs, are among the world’s most vulnerable people. But the case in Gaza is much worse amid ongoing Israeli attacks.
