Syria Condemns Planned Terrorist Attacks against Lebanese Army: Foreign Ministry

DAMASCUS, (ST)- The Syrian Arab Republic condemns the planned terrorist attacks launched against the Lebanese army by armed terrorist groups, mainly the so-called “Islamic State in Iraq and Levant” and “al-Nusra Front”, aiming to destabilize Lebanon,  an official source at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said on Monday.

In a statement, the source added the terrorist attacks against civilians and Lebanese army checkpoints in Arsal town necessitate immediate support for the Lebanese army in its battle against terrorism and extremist takfiri thinking.

“The Syrian Arab Republic affirms its support for the Lebanese army in the confrontation of the terrorist groups and  it is confident that Lebanon will emerge victorious from this battle and will manage to foil every attempt to destabilize Lebanon,” the source said.

It pointed out that “Syria has repeatedly warned against the foreign backed terrorism which has no limits or identity and which can spill over to all countries of the region and its neighbors if not confronted or having its sources dried or if the countries backing the armed groups don’t stop their support for terrorism.”

The source also stressed that Syria, who considers the confrontation of the terrorism hitting Syria, Iraq and Lebanon as a national task to defend the region’s security and stability, affirms its keenness to uproot terrorism and eliminate terrorist groups nationwide.
