DAMASCUS, (ST)-President Bashar Al-Assad yesterday took the oath of office for the coming seven-year term.
His Excellency’s oath-taking speech was seen by the Syrians both inside the country and abroad as a comprehensive work program that draws up the features of the coming era and embodies the Syrians’ aspirations mainly in uprooting terrorism, fighting corruption, reconstructing the country and enhancing national reconciliations across the homeland.
Chairman of the General Federation of Trade Unions Mohammad Shaaban Azzouz said the speech has reflected a strong determination “to build renewable Syria by the Syrians and to fight the foreign-backed armed terrorist takfiri groups.”
Chief of the Lawyers Syndicate Nizar Skeif stressed that the speech founded a new era of political, economic and social life in Syria and indicated that reconstruction have already started in the country.
General Secretaries of a number of national opposition parties in Syria affirmed that President Al-Assad’s speech met the national opposition’s aspirations, particularly in terms of fighting terrorism and corruption and shaping the future of new Syria.
They expressed the national opposition’s cooperation with all the ideas provided in the speech, particularly regarding terrorism eradication, reconstruction and enhancement of the national moral system which preserves the homeland and maintains its sovereignty, unity and independent decision.
“The speech was objective as it explained the details of the conspiracy hatched against Syria and affirmed the Syrians’ determination to get rid of terrorism and attain a political solution to the crisis in the country,” Ahmad Kousa, the Secretary General of the Syrian Democratic Party, said.
Some People’s Assembly members said President Al-Assad’s speech was historical as it reviewed the current situation in Syria and the Arab region and explained the domination schemes designed by enemies of the nation to weaken it in the service of the Zionist entity.
In Prague, members of the Syrian community in the Czech Republic asserted that President Al-Assad’s speech was “a speech of victory and steadfastness” against the conspiracy and the armed terrorist groups.
They hailed the achievements of the Syrian Arab Army and appreciated the sacrifices of the Syrians who martyred to keep the unity and stability of Syria.
In Budapest, members of the “Forum for Syria” and the Syrian community in Hungary said the president’s speech was comprehensive as regards drawing a brighter future for new Syria where no place for terrorism and takfiri groups.
They hailed the President’s insistence that no dialogue will be made with non national Syrians and with the opposition which urged foreign intervention in Syria and contributed to killing innocent Syrians and destroying the country.
