UN Humanitarian Aid Enters Moaddamiyet al-Sham Town

DAMASCUS COUNTRYSIDE, (ST)-Fruitful cooperation between the Syrian government and the UN, resulted yesterday in the access of a batch of UN humanitarian aid to the Moaddamiyet al-Sham town in Damascus countryside.

The aid batch, which is the first to enter the town, contained a thousand food parcels as well as different medical and household staff.

Yacoub al-Hillo, Resident Coordinator of UN Activities in Syria said more UN humanitarian assistance is expected to arrive in the area within the coming four days, pointing out that the aid will include, among other things, two mobile clinics to provide health care.

For his part, Hassan Ghandour, the General Coordinator of National Reconciliations in the town said “the aid, which continues through the coming four days, is presented by the United Nations and the relief organizations in direct coordination with the Syrian government, the Foreign and Expatriates Ministry and the national reconciliation committees within the town.”

According to Ghandour, the aid batches, set to provide assistance to 20 thousand families, include 4000 food parcels, kitchen tools and medical stuff.

More than once, the people of Moadddamiyet al-Sham refused to accept UN aid for being politicized and because the Syrian state and the Syrian Red Crescent are doing their task in this respect.

Accepting the aid was done under the condition that these aid batches must go to those who deserve and must not be politicized, said Ghandour.

Locals of the town hailed the efforts exerted to provide assistance to crisis-hit people and affirmed the importance of accelerating the process of rehabilitating the infrastructure to restore normal life to the town.

They said that national reconciliation was going well in the town hopefully to restore security and stability nationwide.
