Foreign Ministry: UN should Stop Member States support for Terrorist Groups

DAMASCUS,(ST)_ The Ministry of foreign affairs and expatriates extended yesterday two identical letters to the UN Secretary-General and President of the UN Security Council on the appalling massacre committed by the armed terrorist groups against the citizens of Khattab village of Hama northern countryside on Wednesday.

“On Wednesday morning, July 9, 2014 the armed terrorist group committed a horrific massacre against the people of Khattab village in North West rural Hama, resulted in killing of 14 civilians, including seven women and one child,” the letter said adding that after slaughtering the victims, the terrorists abused the bodies of innocent victims and cut their heads.

The statement added that the Minister of Justice issued a decision to form a special judicial committee with a mission to conduct the necessary investigations in the said terrorist crime, noting that this heinous crime is another example of the crimes of extremists terrorism which disregard humanitarian values . Terrorism that targeted state institutions and infrastructure schools, hospitals, at the blatant support of Western and Arab capitals by providing money and weapons, training and shelter to terrorist groups.

The statement continued that the Syrian government expects the Security Council to issue a clear condemnation of this heinous crime and to take serious action against the countries supporting terrorist groups, especially UNSC permanent members, besides other countries, led by Turkey and Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

“ If the Security Council is serious in the fight against terrorism, it should take real action and concrete measures to stop the recruitment and arming of terrorists, and sending them to Syria, under the sight of the international community and support of the UNSC permanent members as well as other countries, particularly Saudi Arabia Turkey and Qatar,” the statement read adding that time has come for the UN to act immediately to stop support for terrorism which will not only dangerous on Syria but would extend to all countries in the world

The ministry concluded by saying that as the Syrian government conveys this important information to the UN Security Council and the UN Secretary-General, it expects necessary measures to be taken to deter regimes in Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Qatar their continued incitement and support for terrorism, accordance with relevant UNSC resolutions, particularly resolutions 1267 1999, 1373, 2001 and 1624 for 2005 and 1989 of 2011 calling for the circulation of this letter as an official document of the UN Security Council and General Assembly under item No. 105, entitled “Measures to combat terrorist acts.”
