DAMASCUS,(ST)_ Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Dr Faisal Miqdad, who is also  head of the Syrian National Committee for the implementation of the Convention on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons yesterday discussed with Sigrid Kaag head of the UN joint mission of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons the significant achievements in Syria ‘s implementation with its obligations under its accession to the Convention on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, including completing the transfer of chemicals outside the Syrian territory in spite of the difficult security conditions it has been experiencing.

Miqdad said that Syria has been always consistent in meeting international obligations in transferring all chemicals in record time, thanks to President Bashar al-Assad’s instructions, the initiative put forward by the Russian President Vladimir Putin, and as a result of the constructive cooperation between Syria and the UN joint mission and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons and the United Nations.

For her part, Kaag expressed happiness over Syria’ achievements of its obligations, pointing out that these achievements were not possible without the Syrian cooperation with the joint mission and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons and the UN.

She also appreciated the efforts made by the Syrian government in closing this file in spite of the difficult conditions experienced by Syria, arguing that this achievement is a success for Syria, the UN and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.

In a statement to reporters after the meeting, Miqdad pointed out that “ the timely transfer of all the chemicals outside Syria is a great success not only for Syria but also for the joint mission of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, the UN, and the head of mission.

“Syria is ready to implement all its obligations on time “, Miqdad stressed, noting the great politicization for this file. He expressed the belief, morally and politically, that the Western countries should take this success into account.

“All l facilities associated with the chemical program are under the control of the Syrian army, and we will maintain that until the job is done.” Dr. Miqdad underscored.

In a similar statement, Kaag said: “We have completed the process of eliminating chemicals in Syria successfully, thanks to the constructive, continuous and strong cooperation with the Syrian government, noting that ” since the beginning, there was a will of clear commitment and the implementation process was a proof to that. “

“This process can be calculated, measured and is visible. It is greatly tangible. I think we’ll consider June the 30th as an exceptional day.” She underscored.
