Iran: Syria Faces a Western-Zionist Conspiracy

TEHRAN,(ST)_ “One of  the western, Zionist and reactionary plots in the region was devoted  to create differences and unrest in Syria  in order to weaken resistance, “ said the Secretary-General of the  Iranian World Academy of Islamic Awakening  Dr. Ali Akbar Velayati .

In a press conference under the title : “ Muslim scholars  and the Islamic awaking “, held in Tehran, Velayati  stressed  the importance of defending the Syrian people , Iran ‘s dedicated  effort  to this effect and   backing to  reforms in Syria.
Meantime,  Secretary of the Iranian Supreme National Security Council, Saeed  Jalili,  condemned the acts of violence carried out by  armed groups in Syria, describing the destruction of  Syria ‘s infrastructure as  damaging  for Syria ‘s future  and serving the  Zionist entity.

“ Countries that interfere in the affairs of Syria have become  part of the problem,” Jalili added during a meeting  with the  chief of  the Syrian national coordination for  peaceful change in the Diaspora Haitham Manaa ,  pointing out that the only solution to stop the violence in Syria is through  dialogue to resolve her crisis.”
He indicated  that the dignity  and strength of the Syrian people are but subject to  the  Syrian people to decide their own destiny, stressing that maintaining Syrian  people’s interest should be the  priority of any initiative to halt violence in Syria.
For his part, Manna stressed that a Syrian solution  away from foreign interference  is but the  right and principled solution.

He continued  that the interest of the  Syrian people lies in halting  violence by all sides and initiating a  dialogue between the Syrians . He expressed appreciation for Iran efforts to restore  calm to Syria.

In a similar meeting  with Manaa, the Iranian deputy foreign minister for  Arab and African  Affairs   Abdul Ameer  al-Lahyan  stressed his country ‘s continued  efforts to halt  violence and pave the ground to resolve the crisis in Syria by peaceful means.

“The irresponsible  measures of  the armed groups in Syria , backed by some countries led  only to more destruction of the infrastructure and the  increase  of material and human losses in Syria, ” the Iranian official underscored.

He indicated the positive results of the  meetings of the Syrian national dialogue in Tehran, noting that the second round of the meeting of the Syrian  national figures  will be held with the participation of  representatives of the Syrian government.
“Iran does not want to decide  on behalf of the Syrian people for their fate,  rather seeks to provide the conditions through consultation among  all Syrian governmental, nongovernmental  organizations and NGOs to enable  the Syrian people to  maintain self-determination under cessation of Violence and holding of free and fair elections. “
For his part Manaa  said :  “It is time to put pressure on the parties engaged in violence and pave the way for the start of the political process in Syria.”
He stressed  identical views with the Iranian side concerning  halting  violence and finding  a peaceful political solution to the crisis in Syria , adding  “We consider Iran as a strategic partner to our principled objectives in the region and  invite her to mobilize her powers to provide a success for a political process in Syria”.
