NEW YORK-Recognizing the causes of any humanitarian crisis and finding ways to eliminate them forms the beginning of solving this crisis, Syria’s Permanent Representative at the United Nations Bashar al-Jaafari has said.
Al-Jaafari, who was speaking yesterday during the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) annual session dedicated to discuss humanitarian issues, stressed that the humanitarian crisis in Syria won’t be solved through political prejudice or through avoiding the acknowledgment of the political reasons of the crisis mainly terrorism, which hinders the UN humanitarian efforts.
“Statements and actions by UN officials and representatives of some countries member in this organization regarding the humanitarian crisis in Syria indicates that those officials don’t seek a solution to the crisis in Syria and they refuse recognizing the reasons behind the continuity of the crisis,” al-Jaafari said, pointing out that some of these officials are directly involved in feeding the terrorism which is shedding the blood of the Syrian, Iraqi, Egyptian, Lebanese, Libyan, Malian and Nigerian people and others.
“Besides providing humanitarian aid, solving the humanitarian crisis in Syria necessitates tackling and eradicating the reasons which led to the emergence and the worsening of this crisis in different areas, foremost of which is terrorism,” al-Jaafari affirmed.
He pointed out that the repercussions of the unilateral economic sanctions on Syria were another reason for the humanitarian suffering in Syria, stressing that these sanctions have worsened the humanitarian situation in most Syrian areas and led the Syrians to seek shelter in neighboring countries aiming to put more pressure on the Syrian government.
“The lack of finance stood as a third reason for worsening the crisis in Syria, Jaafari said, clarifying that the donating parties provided only 27% of the finance needed for the humanitarian response plan for the year2014 in Syria.
The most effective way to settle crises is to put an end to the making of these crises and to acknowledge the destructive behavior of the countries which make, feed and seek prolonging crises and then shed crocodile tears over the suffering of the crises-hit people and claim that they are financing the humanitarian aid.
