DPRK’s Foreign Minster: Syrians are Rare Strugglers Bravely Defending Their Country

DAMASCUS, (ST)- “The Syrians are rare strugglers who defend their homeland with unmatched patriotism and bravery,” the Foreign Minister of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) Ri Su Yong stressed yesterday, describing the relation between Syria and the DPRK as a struggle relation between comrades in arms.

Yong, who was speaking upon his arrival in the Jdeidet Yabous crossing at the Syrian-Lebanese borders where he met the Syrian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faysal al-Mikdad, said “the Western countries persist in their conspiracies against Syria to destroy this brave country, but history provides a fact that justice will inevitably triumph and the current situation affirms that the struggle of the Syrian people proves this fact.”

“The historical relations between Syria and the DPRK were founded by late leaders Hafez Al-Assad and Kim Il Sung. They were based on joint struggle against the enemies of the two countries and are now witnessing more development under the leadership of presidents Bashar Al-Assad and Kim Yong-un,” the DPRK’s Foreign Minister said.

He conveyed the congratulations and best wishes of President Kim Yong-un to President Al-Assad on winning the presidential elections which indicated the Syrian people’s trust in their leader despite the critical circumstances they suffer.

Yong said he was confident that “the Syrian people will be victorious, because they are fighting in defense of their country and leadership,” pointing out that victory will always be to the side which has the just and legitimate cause not to the side which only has the military and economic power.”

For his part, Faysal al-Mikdad said “Pyongyang, which has been a symbol of steadfastness, fully supports us in our alliance against imperialism and western policies and we are greatly satisfied about the steadfastness of the people and the leadership of Democratic Korea in confrontation of the conspiracy hatched against this friendly country.”

“The steadfastness of Democratic Korea means the steadfastness of Syria,” Mikdad said, hailing the deeply-rooted relations between the two countries.

In a statement to journalists upon his arrival in the Sheraton Hotel in Damascus, the Korean top diplomat said “the Syrian people’s trust in President Bashar Al-Assad has dealt a strong blow to the common enemies of the two countries,” adding that his visit to Syria aims at joining the Syrian people their happiness on attaining these great achievements, at voicing support for the Syrians’ just struggle and at discussing ways of enhancing bilateral ties.
