MOSCOW- Dr. Bouthain Shaaban, the Political and Media Advisor of President Bashar Al-Assad, has reiterated that the Arab and regional countries, which have been targeting Syria through sponsoring, financing and arming terrorists, persist in their crimes against the Syrian people, pointing out that what is happening in Iraq completes the policy of these countries in targeting the entire region.
Shaaban’s remarks were made during her meeting with the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Michael Bogdanov in Moscow on Monday. The meeting dealt with the situation in Syria and the region in general.
In a statement to SANA following the meeting, Shaaban said she and Bogdanov held consultations on the situation in Syria and the region in the light of the latest developments in Iraq.
“We reiterated the need to unify efforts to fight terrorism and halt its spread in the region and the world,” Shaaban said.
She hailed the Russian Foreign Ministry’s statements which stress that what is going on in Iraq is the result of the American invasion of the country in 2003 and is a proof confirming the failure of the American policy in the region.
The political and media advisor affirmed that Syria respected all its international commitments and suggested, long time ago, making the Middle East a region free of all kinds of Mass Destruction Weapons.
She stressed that “Syria agrees fully with Russia on this issue, so, starting form this base, Syria has met all its commitments regarding the elimination of chemical weapons in the country.”
Shaaban said “the ongoing reconciliation, being attained across Syria, is the best solution to the crisis in the country as its results are being reflected positively on all the Syrian people who find in this process a real hope to end the crisis.”
Bodanov, for his part, hailed the good organization of the Syrian first multi-candidate presidential elections and the democratic atmosphere prevailed during this constitutional process.
About the result of the elections, Bodanov said “it is the decision of the Syrian people and Russia respects the decision of this people.”
The Russian diplomat expressed satisfaction over the positive steps taken by the Syrian government to implement its commitment concerning the elimination of chemical weapons.
During their meeting, Shaaban and Bogdanov stressed the determination of Moscow and Damascus to continue effective political dialogue on all issues of common interest.
