The team includes: Firas Rifai, Mohammad Sheikhouni, Ghazwan Ladqani, Raja Akrad and Mazen Qadamani (free-style wrestling) while Nawzat Salih will compete in the Greco-Roman wrestling contest.

It is to be noted that our team took part in the West Asia Championship which was held in Lebanon last March.

Syrian wrestlers clinched 16 varied medals in the said event.

On Syria’s participation in the Serbia event, Ahmad Jumaa, the Wrestling Federation Chairman, was quoted as saying: “in preparation for taking part in this prestigious event, an indoor-training camp was held in Damascus last February. Actually, we have depended on veteran players to represent Syria in the Mediterranean Championship. It (the event) will be a good opportunity for our wrestlers to gain more experience,”.
