Press conference for Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Al-Sheibani and his Jordanian counterpart part at Tishreen Palace in Damascus
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Asaad Al-Sheibani, and Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr.Ayman Al-Safadi, held a joint press conference on the establishment of a higher Coordination Council between Syria and Jordan at Tishreen Palace in Damascus
During the press conference Sheibani said:
-We crowned our diplomatic efforts by lifting European sanctions just days after the lifting
-We signed an agreement to establish a higher coordinating council to enhance joint work that serves the interests of our two countries.
-Common security threats facing Syria and Jordan, and our relationship with it heralds a promising prosperity. The lifting of American and European sanctions will positively impact Syria and the region.
-Economic coordination with Jordan began from day one after liberation, and they were more keen on it than we were. Lifting sanctions on Syria will help enhance this cooperation in transportation, energy, and all fields.
-Israeli aggressions against Syria do not only threaten Syria but the entire region and represent a blatant violation of international laws. From day one, we said we want a stable Syria as the Syrian people are tired of wars
-We are in talks with the United States, Europe, and all countries to compel Israel to implement the 1974 agreement.
-We appreciate Jordan’s stance rejecting Israeli interventions in Syria that threaten the entire region.
-Syrian diplomacy has adopted an open approach from day one with everyone to serve the Syrian people, and we have conveyed their aspirations and needs with sincerity and honesty. Syria has emerged from war after 14 years, and what we want to focus on is security and stability
-We have common borders with Jordan, Turkey, and Lebanon, and we want to maintain their security and confront what threatens them, as our security is linked to the security of neighboring countries
-Every one stands by Syria today, and certainly there are those who do not want its stability, but they are aberrant voices of no value.
-The energy file is at the top of our priorities to find a solution to the electricity shortage in Syria.
-We thank Jordan for hosting Syrian refugees for years, and we are working towards the return of all refugees to their homeland.
Al-Safadi said :
-We are keen to strengthen the brotherly relations between our two countries through comprehensive cooperation that benefits us all.
– We are here under the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah II to build integrative relations with Syria. Today marks an important achievement as we agreed on a roadmap to activate cooperation in the fields of energy, transport, water, and health.
-Syria is going through a historic phase, and Jordan will be its supporter and backer until it reaches a free, sovereign, stable, and secure Syria for all its citizens whose stability is a cornerstone for the stability of the entire region.
-The brotherly Syrian people are capable and accomplished. If given the opportunity, they will achieve a new success story.
-What threatens Syria’s security and stability threatens Jordan’s security and stability. We seek to enhance cooperation in facing shared challenges.
-The Israeli attacks on southern Syria are an attack on Jordan as well. Stability in Syria requires ending all foreign interventions in its affairs.
-I congratulate Syria once again on the lifting of sanctions, which is a necessity that will help the Syrian government provide services to its people and enable them to rebuild their homeland.
– Israel must respect Syria’s sovereignty and end its occupation of Syrian land.
-Jordan is Syria’s gateway to the Gulf and the Arab world, and Syria is Jordan’s gateway to Europe.
