Higher Education and the United Nations Development Programme Discuss Priorities and Implementation of Joint Scientific Projects in Syria
Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Dr. Marwan Halabi today met with Dr. Mohamed Madawi, Deputy Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Syria, and the accompanying delegation to discuss the priorities and needs of the higher education sector in Syria and the implementation of joint projects.
During the meeting held at the ministry’s headquarters in Damascus, Minister Dr.Halabi emphasized the importance of cooperation in rehabilitating and developing the virtual university, which was significantly affected during the liberation from the former regime, as well as in ensuring the quality of education and improving the reality of higher education to elevate the ranking of Syrian universities and establish centers for empowering women.
For his part, Dr. Madawi expressed the programme’s readiness to assist in securing the needs of the virtual university, establishing specialized centers for Syrian women, helping the ministry achieve its goals and implement its projects, and strengthening relations and academic collaboration between the ministry and the programme.
The delegation members also reviewed potential cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence, supporting research in Syrian universities, establishing student clubs in universities for dialogue, as well as restoring and reactivating university buildings, developing strategic plans for the ministry, supporting continuing education, and attracting experts from abroad to contribute to preparing studies for the ministry and assisting in accessing services provided by organizations outside Syria.
