Jaghbir: Jordan’s exports to Syria during the initial two months of 2025 reached JOD 13 million
AMMAN, MAY.17, (ST)– A contingent of 25 Jordanian industrial companies is set to participate in the International Building Exhibition in Damascus, Syria, in May 27, according to Petra.
The participation in the five-day event, which is organized by the Amman Chamber of Industry (ACI), aims to foster trade and explore opportunities in Syria’s reconstruction phase.
Fathi Jaghbir, Chairman of both the Jordan and Amman Chambers of Industry, announced on Saturday that the participating Jordanian firms represent key sectors integral to reconstruction efforts. These include infrastructure development, building materials, and energy, alongside engineering industries where Jordan possesses significant competitive capabilities.
He elaborated that an industrial delegation, comprising representatives from diverse manufacturing sectors, will hold talks on the sidelines of the exhibition. The delegation’s agenda will focus on “exploring commercial partnerships and establishing complementary industrial ventures.”
“This visit will also facilitate high-level business meetings with several Syrian ministries and institutions pertinent to bilateral trade enhancement between the two nations,” Jaghbir noted, emphasizing the critical importance of bolstering Jordan-Syria economic relations, which are underpinned by substantial shared interests.
He further articulated that “any easing of prevailing restrictions on the cross-border movement of goods and financial transactions would significantly contribute to facilitating the flow of goods and services, thereby improving the investment climate on both sides of the border.”
Jaghbir expressed optimism regarding the potential for Jordanian exports to Syria to rebound to their historical benchmarks, which previously exceeded JOD 181 million annually.
He highlighted positive recent trends, stating, “The Kingdom’s exports to Syria during the initial two months of the current year reached JOD 13 million, marking a 40 percent year-on-year increase compared to the corresponding period in 2024.”
The Chairman stressed Jordan’s strategic geographical positioning, which “qualifies it to serve as a pivotal logistics hub for the supply chain into Syria, Lebanon, and Turkey.” This, he asserted, would “reinforce the Kingdom’s stature as a regional trade corridor and support the resurgence of its exports to neighboring markets via Syrian territory.”
