On the Sidelines of the International Donor Meeting in Italy, the Minister of Agriculture Discusses the Reality of Agriculture in Syria

Dr. Amjad Badr, the Minister of Agriculture, met today with Mr. Qu Dongyu, the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), to discuss the current state of the agricultural sector in Syria.

This meeting took place during the International Meeting of Donors and Ministers of Agriculture from the Near East and North Africa, held at the International Center for Advanced Mediterranean Agricultural Studies at the Bari Institute in Italy.

During their discussion, Minister Badr outlined the challenges faced by the agricultural sector, highlighting the damage inflicted by the previous regime and the key obstacles that remain.

He emphasized the resolve and determination of the Syrian people to revitalize both vegetable and livestock agriculture. Minister Badr stressed the importance of collaboration with international organizations, particularly the FAO, in supporting Syrian agriculture and farmers in overcoming these challenges. He pointed out the need for training and qualifying personnel in the agricultural sector and providing farmers with the necessary agricultural supplies.

In response, Mr. Qu Dongyu reaffirmed that the FAO prioritizes Syria and will work to ensure that the necessary support is provided to the country’s agricultural sector.
