Civil Defense continues firefighting operations in the Al-Rabeea area in Latakia

The firefighting operations to extinguish the blazes in the Al-Rabeea area of Jabal al-Turkman in Latakia countryside are still ongoing for the 6th consecutive day, with reinforcements of firefighting teams, water supplies, human resources, and equipment arriving to combat the flames and control the hotspots that remain active in the area.

In a statement to SANA, the Director of the Civil Defense Directorate in the Syrian coast, Abdul Kafi Kiyal, confirmed that the firefighting teams are facing significant difficulties in controlling the fires and extinguishing the hotspots that flare up unexpectedly, especially with the strong winds that complicate the work, along with challenges posed by distant water sources, rough terrain, and the widespread nature of the fire.

Kiyal noted that the response of the firefighting teams has improved significantly after new roads were opened in the area and it was divided into sectors, allowing them to reach and control the active hotspots and prevent them from spreading to neighboring villages.

He pointed out that the areas consumed by the fire have increased from 30 hectares to 40 hectares so far.

Kiyal mentioned that Syrian helicopters participated in the firefighting operations as part of the intensive efforts of the joint operations room of the Ministry of Disaster and Emergency Affairs along with several ministries and relevant authorities to control the fire, limit its spread, and extinguish it.
