Minister of Transport Discusses Ways to Revive Several Stalled Projects with Charge d’Affaires of the Qatari Embassy

Minister of Transport Dr. Yaarab Badr met with the Charge d’Affaires of the Qatari Embassy in Damascus, Khalifa Abdullah Al-Mahmoud, to discuss ways of mutual cooperation between the two countries in the transport sector.

During a meeting held today at the ministry’s headquarters, Dr. Badr emphasized the importance of enhancing bilateral relations between Syria and Qatar, stressing the role of partnership between the two sides to develop the transport sector in Syria by reviving previously stalled projects that had been halted due to economic sanctions imposed on the Syrian people during the regime’s downfall.

Minister Badr pointed out several previously suspended projects that are essential to reactivate, such as the new road projects: “North-South Corridor from Bab al-Hawa to the Jordanian border” and “West-East Corridor from Tartus Port to the Iraqi border,” as well as the unified road transport agreement between the two countries to facilitate the movement of private cars and public trucks, along with other projects related to investing in solar-powered public transport buses.

Badr confirmed the ministry’s readiness to cooperate with the Qatari side in providing Syria with internal transport buses that would improve transportation services offered to citizens.

For his part, the Charge d’Affaires Khalifa highlighted the importance of the visit, as it comes within the framework of strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries and discussing ways of mutual cooperation in the transport sector to serve the interests of both brotherly peoples, expressing Qatar’s readiness to provide technical and material support in the field of internal transport.
