The World Health Organization appeals to donors to assist 16 million people in Syria

The World Health Organization announced that approximately 16 million people in Syria are in dire need of immediate health and humanitarian support, appealing to international donors to provide urgent funding for its health projects in Syria.

“Nearly 16 million people across Syria need urgent humanitarian health assistance,” said WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus in a post on his X account yesterday. He noted that thanks to a $3 million contribution from the United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund, the organization was able to expand life-saving health services to more than 500,000 people and provide medical services.

Ghebreyesus noted that mental health services are being provided to those severely affected by displacement, but the need remains much greater. He called on donors to increase their support because people’s lives depend on it
