International Committee of the Red Cross reaffirms its commitment to continuing humanitarian support in Syria

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Syria affirmed its continued commitment to providing humanitarian support to those in need, and that its partnership with the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC) remains a fundamental pillar in responding to the growing needs over the past 14 years.

In a media briefing on World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, the ICRC commended the role of millions of volunteers and workers in the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement around the world, who dedicate their efforts daily to helping those affected by crises and alleviating their suffering.

The ICRC emphasized that, in cooperation with its partners in Syria, they continue to work to meet urgent needs and support essential services and vital infrastructure as part of early recovery and livelihood restoration efforts.

It stressed that its neutral and impartial humanitarian work represents a lifeline for those affected.

The ICRC concluded by paying tribute to the souls of the humanitarian workers who lost their lives in the line of duty, recalling that any attack on humanitarian workers is unacceptable.

It is a violation of international humanitarian law and an assault on the communities they serve, and their protection is a priority that cannot be delayed.
