Finance Minister Expresses Gratitude for Qatar’s Salary Support Grant

Minister of Finance Mohammed Yasser Barnieh said in a statement:

• We thank the Qatari government for the generous grant provided to cover part of the current wage and salary bill

.• The grant amounts to 29 million US dollars per month for a duration of three months, extendable.

• The grant will cover the salaries of workers in the health sector, education sector, social affairs sector, and non-military retirees.

• The grant has been exempted from US sanctions, and I would like to thank the US Department of the Treasury for their prompt response in facilitating the grant, which is a step we hope will be followed by further measures to enhance trust and move towards more actions to alleviate and remove sanctions.

• The grant will be managed by the United Nations Development Programme.

• This generous grant covers nearly one-fifth of the current wage and salary bill.

• We are moving forward with financial reform to enhance integrity and trust in our financial system.
