Press Conference between President Ahmed al-Sharaa and President Emmanuel Macron

In a joint press conference held at the Élysée Palace, President Emmanuel Macron opened the conference by welcoming the end of Assad’s regime, stating: “The fall of Bashar al-Assad was welcomed by everyone, and now the Syrians must unite to achieve peace and stability.”

He underscored the necessity of preserving Syria’s territorial integrity and ensuring equal rights for all its citizens.

Highlighting the challenges that Syria faces, Macron called for the international community to support the country in overcoming these obstacles.

He praised President al-Sharaa for his efforts to reach an agreement with the Syrian Democratic Forces, which he described as a crucial step towards ensuring civil peace.In a notable commitment.

Macron announced that France is prepared to cooperate with Syria in combating ISIS, emphasizing that such collaboration would serve the interests of both nations.

He also indicated that France would work towards gradually lifting European sanctions imposed on Syria, a move he believes will aid in the country’s reconstruction and facilitate the return of refugees.

President al-Sharaa expressed his gratitude to President Macron and the French people for their support of Syrian refugees and for hosting them.

Reflecting on the Syrian revolution that began in 2011, he remarked, “We did not expect our revolution to go through so many stages and to face the most extreme forms of violence, but the people refused to submit to tyranny.”

During the conference, al-Sharaa discussed the urgent need for reconstruction in Syria, which he described as a top priority.

He acknowledged the challenges of the post-revolution period and the need to reject sectarian strife and external violations of Syria’s sovereignty.Al-Sharaa also addressed recent violent incidents in the coastal region, stating that a committee has been formed to investigate these events, which he attributed to remnants of the former regime.

He assured that those responsible would be held accountable.

Al-Sharaa said “Syria is no longer on the margins of the map. Its economy is connected to the global economy, and the sanctions imposed due to the actions of the former regime must be lifted.”

He expressed hope that the meeting would signal a positive direction for the Syrian people.

Macron echoed this sentiment, stating that lifting sanctions would contribute to Syria’s reconstruction and facilitate the return of refugees.

He also condemned Israeli attacks on Syrian territory, calling them unacceptable violations of Syria’s sovereignty.

As the press conference concluded, both leaders expressed a commitment to working together for a stable and peaceful future for Syria.

President Macron noted “After a bloody war in Syria, I see a leader who is still in place. The discussions mark a pivotal moment in Syrian-French relations and the broader international approach to the ongoing crisis in Syria.
