Minister of Economy and Industry, Dr. Mohammad Nidal Al-Shaar, met with the Regional Director of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, Mr. Khawaja Aftab Ahmed, to discuss areas and prospects of cooperation, and ways to enhance technical and financial support for economic sectors.
During the meeting, held today at the Ministry’s headquarters, discussions focused on providing financing for sectors involved in sustainable development and private investment, improving the business environment in Syria, rehabilitating industrial infrastructure, and offering consultancy services across various economic and developmental sectors.
Minister Al-Shaar stressed the importance of activating partnerships with international financial institutions during the economic recovery phase, pointing to the need to expand support programs for small and medium-sized enterprises and enhance private sector initiatives to create job opportunities and achieve sustainable growth.
For his part, Aftab Ahmed expressed the IFC’s readiness to enhance its presence and role in Syria, contributing to the support of the Syrian economy and offering technical expertise and advisory services to improve the investment climate. He reaffirmed the IFC’s commitment to supporting Syria in its efforts to revive the economy and recover from the effects of the war.
