Health Minister and WHO representative Discuss Ways to Enhance Joint Cooperation

Health Minister Dr. Musab Al-Ali discussed with the World Health Organization (WHO) Representative in Syria, Christina Bethke, and the accompanying delegation, ways to enhance joint health cooperation.

 

During a meeting held today at the Ministry building, both sides discussed the mechanism for transferring the responsibilities and operations of the Gaziantep office to the WHO office in Damascus and the Ministry of Health, in order to continue operations following the liberation of Syria and the fall of the former regime.

 

Dr. Al-Ali emphasized the sensitivity of the current phase Syria is going through and stressed the need to intensify support to improve the health sector and provide the best medical services to patients.

 

He considered that the organization is the Ministry’s most important partner at this stage.

Al-Ali expressed the ministry’s readiness to cooperate and provide all necessary facilitation for the implementation of the organization’s work in Syria.

He pointed out the need to develop and expand operations in accordance with the ministry’s plan and priorities.

 

Bethke confirmed that the organization ranks Syria second after Gaza in terms of priority for providing support, and it is constantly seeking to integrate its work with that of the ministry.

 

She noted that efforts are currently focused on supporting human resources, rehabilitation and restoration, and securing medications.
