The Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Mr. Abdul Salam Heikal, discussed with the charge d’affaires of the German Embassy in Damascus, Ms. Margaret Yakoub, ways to enhance cooperation between Syria and Germany in the communications and in the information technology sector to serve common interests and support digital transformation efforts.
Ambassador Yakoub stressed the commitment of the German government to continue supporting the Syrian people, as her country has received the largest number of Syrians, stressing at the same time the permanent commitment to its humanitarian guarantees towards them.
The German ambassador explained that the transitional phase that Syria is going through will open new horizons, and it also poses challenges that require cooperation between the two countries, reiterating the readiness of the German government to provide the necessary support to promote stability and development in Syria.
The Minister reviewed the ministry’s vision for achieving digital transformation and infrastructure development, noting that the sanctions imposed on Syria constitute an obstacle to the transition towards effective digital transformation. He also indicated ongoing efforts to overcome challenges and enhance cooperation with international partners. He also expressed his appreciation for Germany’s role in hosting Syrian refugees.
