Boughali: The headquarters of the Arab Parliamentary Union will remain in Damascus, as proof of our belief in Syria’s pivotal role

The President of the Arab Parliamentary Union and the Speaker of the Algerian National People’s Assembly, Ibrahim Boughali, emphasized the pivotal role that Syria plays within its Arab environment. He expressed full support for efforts to restore Syria to its natural position within the Union.

Algerian news agency (APS) reported Boughali as saying in a press statement yesterday at the conclusion of the 38th Arab Parliamentary Union conference: “Just as my country has been keen on Syria’s return to the Arab League, the Arab Parliamentary Union, chaired by Algeria, is also keen on keeping its permanent headquarters in Damascus, believing in Syria’s pivotal role and affirming its support for Syria until it regains its strength and returns to its natural position within the Union.”

Boughali called on Arab parliaments to do everything possible to protect the interests of the nation in light of the current regional and international challenges.

It is worth noting that the 38th Arab Parliamentary Union conference began last Saturday in the Algerian capital, under the slogan “The Role of the Arab Parliamentary Union in Light of Regional and International Changes.
