The Swiss Mission to the UN: Justice in Syria is a real opportunity that should be seized

The Swiss Mission to the United Nations(UN) said in a post on the X platform: Justice in Syria is no longer an abstract goal, but rather a concrete opportunity that should be seized.

During the General Assembly debate on the International Independent Mechanism (IIIM), Switzerland welcomed the dialogue between the IIIM and Syria regarding access and cooperation, and called for sustainable funding for the mechanism.

Clarification: On December 21, 2016, the United Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution 71/248/A, which provides for establishing an International, Impartial and Independent Mechanism to assist in the investigation and prosecution of persons responsible for the most serious crimes under International Law, and which have been committed in the Syrian Arab Republic since March 2011.
