Qatar and UK Agree on Working Together to Support Economic Recovery in Syria

Qatar and the UK announced today, Tuesday, their agreement to work together in Syria to provide humanitarian assistance and support reconstruction efforts, emphasizing that achieving stability and security in Syria is of utmost importance.

 

The Qatari News Agency (QNA) quoted a joint Qatari-British statement regarding the second strategic dialogue for 2025, which was held in Doha the day before yesterday under the slogan “Partners for the Future,” co-chaired by Qatari Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman bin Jassim Al Thani and his British counterpart David Lammy, as saying that the two ministers agreed that achieving stability and security in Syria is of paramount importance.

 

The two ministers emphasized the importance of a comprehensive political transition based on the fundamental principles of UN Security Council Resolution 2254 (2015) to achieve lasting peace and stability.

 

The ministers praised the long-standing partnership between the UK and Qatar in defense, security, and counter-terrorism, which continues to evolve in response to emerging threats.

 

The statement noted: “Qatar and the UK once again reaffirmed their commitment to providing humanitarian assistance and developmental cooperation to reach the most needy and affected populations.

 

Lammy expressed Britain’s appreciation for Qatar’s mediation efforts toward achieving sustainable ceasefire in Gaza and securing the release of the remaining hostages.

 

While the Qatari Foreign Minister strongly condemned Israel’s resumption of war in Gaza and its completely unacceptable policies preventing vital aid from reaching those in need.
