Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Assad Al-Shaibani made a speech during the meeting of the United Nations General Assemby in New York.
He said:
– Divisions have prevented the Security Council from making resolute decisions regarding our country.
– Differences and Competition between states has weakened some UN initiatives on Syria.
– Experience has taught us that avoiding armed conflicts is not possible without accountanility.
– Protests in 2011 were the result of decades of repression.
– Lifting the sanction is important to avoid new armed conflicts.
– We will establish a body for transitional justice and a special committee to investigate the issue of the missing persons.
– We have taken decisive steps towards stability by releasing detainees, forming an inclusive government, and uniting armed factions into a national army.
– Without genuine economic and political support, our efforts will be at risk of collapse.
– Israeli attacks on our lands pose a threat to regional security and fuel new crises that could escalate into a wider conflict.”
