The Presidency of the Republic issues a statement on the developments regarding the agreement with the leadership of the SDF

The recent agreement reached between President Ahmad Al-Sharaa and the leadership of “SDF” constituted a positive step toward de-escalation and openness to a comprehensive national solution.

However, the recent moves and statements made by the leadership of “SDF” which call for federalism and establish a de facto situation on the ground, clearly contradict the content of the agreement and threaten the unity and safety of the country.

Accordingly, we affirm the following:Any step must be built on the spirit of national unity and away from private or exclusionary projects.

We categorically reject any attempts to impose a reality of division or to establish separate entities under names such as federalism or self-administration without broad national consensus.

The unity of Syria—its land and people—is a red line, and any deviation from that is a grave violation of Syria’s national identity and the spirit of Syrian unity.

We express our deep concern regarding practices that indicate dangerous trends toward demographic changes in some areas, threatening the social fabric of Syrian society and undermining opportunities for a comprehensive national solution.

We warn against disrupting the work of Syrian state institutions in areas controlled by (SDF), restricting citizens’ access to their services, monopolizing national resources, and utilizing them outside the framework of the state, which contributes to deepening division and threatening national sovereignty.

The leadership of SDF cannot monopolize decision-making in the northeastern region of Syria, where authentic components such as Arabs, Kurds, Christians, and others coexist. Confiscating the decision-making power of any component and unjustly representing them is unacceptable.

There will be neither stability nor a future without genuine partnership and fair representation for all parties.

We affirm that the rights of our Kurdish brothers, like all components of the Syrian people, are protected and preserved within the framework of the unified Syrian state, based on the principles of full citizenship and equality before the law, without the need for any external intervention or foreign guardianship.

We call upon the partners in discord, especially SDF to sincerely commit to the agreements and prioritize the supreme national interest over any narrow or foreign agendas.

Finally, we reaffirm our firm position that the solution in Syria must be purely Syrian and national, based on the will of the people, safeguarding the unity and sovereignty of the country, and rejecting all forms of guardianship or foreign domination.
