Yemen to reopen its embassy in Damascus next Sunday

ADEN, Apr.26, (ST)- The Yemeni Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the Yemeni Embassy in Damascus will reopen next Sunday.

The ministry said in a statement released on Saturday: “In implementation of the directives of Dr. Shaye Mohsen Al-Zindani, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, and his brother, His Excellency Asaad Al-Shaibani, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Syrian Arab Republic, and reflecting the historical and distinguished relations between the two brotherly countries and peoples, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announces the resumption of work at the Embassy of the Republic of Yemen in the Syrian Arab Republic, as of Sunday, April 27, 2025, and the appointment of Counselor Mohammed Ezzi Baakar as Acting Chargé d’Affaires.”

The ministry affirmed that “the embassy’s return to its duties, after being seized by the terrorist Houthi militias in 2016, with the support of the former Syrian regime, represents a historic and diplomatic milestone in the relations between the two brotherly countries and peoples, and a highly significant symbol of the presence of the state and its legitimate institutions and the demise of deviant and subversive projects.

The ministry also expressed its aspiration, through the reopening of the embassy, ​​to strengthen bilateral relations between the Republic of Yemen and the Syrian Arab Republic, and for this to represent a new phase of cooperation between the two brotherly countries in various fields.
