EU to fund mine clearance activities in Syria, says Onmacht

BRUSSELS, Apr.26, (ST)- The Chargé d’Affaires of the European Union Delegation to Syria, Michael Ohnmacht, declared that the European Union intends to fund mine clearance activities in Syria.

In a tweet on his X account, Onmacht said: “This is my second visit to Daraya and my first to a school there. Thank you to UNMAS and the Syrian education authorities for the excellent organization. I’m happy to see the resumption of cooperation between the various parties. Mine risk education in schools is essential, and the European Union will fund mine clearance activities in the next phase!”

Concentrating on protecting children from deadly explosive remnants of war, UNMAS and UNICEF Syria held a special painting activity called “painting for peace” at Darraya Girls’ School in rural Damascus, focusing on Explosive Ordnance risk education.

From 7 to 10 April, the UNMAS and UNICEF Risk Education team conducted awareness sessions with around 300 students, helping them understand the risks of explosive ordnance and the purpose behind the upcoming art activity.
