Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates hails the unified Arab position in support of Syria

Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has affirmed that the Arab League (AL) Council at the ministerial level issued a statement on Syria following its meeting yesterday in Cairo.

The meeting was attended by Syria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Asaad al-Shaibani.

The ministry said that the AL Council’s statement stressed commitment to preserving the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of Syria, and to respecting and supporting the choices of the Syrian people during the transitional period.

According to the ministry, the statement also stressed support for the Syrian transitional government and condemned the violence that occurred on the Syrian coast last March, which began with an attack by remnants of the former regime on army and security forces.

The statement rejected foreign interventions aimed at destabilizing and undermining civil peace.

The statement also condemned Israel’s attacks on Syrian territory and its attempts to fuel internal conflicts. It also condemned the incursion of Israeli forces into the buffer zone in Syria, including Jabal Al-Sheikh “Mount Hermon” and the governorates of Damascus Countryside, Quneitra, and Daraa, which constitutes a flagrant violation of international law and the 1974 Disengagement Agreement between Syria and Israel.

The statement called on the Security Council to take action to stop these attacks and violations.

The statement called for lifting all unilateral coercive measures imposed on Syria, accelerating recovery and reconstruction, and contributing to the voluntary return of the displaced persons.

It welcomed the easing of US and European sanctions on Syria, calling on donor countries to swiftly fulfill their pledges to support the humanitarian situation in Syria.

The statement emphasized the importance of the United Nations’ role in supporting the Syrian government through full cooperation with this government and the role of the Arab League in supporting Syria during the transitional period, strengthening joint Arab cooperation in Syria, and continuing to provide humanitarian aid to the country.

The statement came in the light of tireless efforts exerted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates to restore Syria to its status and position within the Arab League and to strengthen joint Arab cooperation with the aim of creating a unified Arab position after Syria’s relations with Arab countries were negatively affected as a result of the policies of the former regime.
