Minister of Tourism: Syrian-Turkish agreements to be signed to establish tourist resorts
Minister of Tourism Mazen Al-Salhani revealed a series of new agreements to be signed with Turkey in the coming period regarding the establishment of tourist resorts in several governorates. The aim is to consolidate relations between the two sides and agree on a joint action plan.
Minister Al-Salehani, in a statement following his meeting with the Turkish Chargé d’Affairs in Damascus, Burhan Koroglu, affirmed the work to revitalize the Suleymaniye Tekke site in terms of its religious, historical, and cultural significance, and to benefit from Turkish expertise and personnel in the restoration work to make this site an archaeological landmark.
He pointed out that specialized workshops will be held to open the Suleymaniye Tekke in two phases within a timetable that cannot be discussed at present.
He also indicated that tourist routes are being prepared and will be announced to the Turkish side soon. For his part, the Turkish Chargé d’Affaires said, “We have informed the Syrian side of the Turkish Minister of Tourism and Culture’s desire to visit Syria in the coming period. A number of agreements are scheduled to be signed to activate tourism between the two countries.”
He emphasized that efforts are underway to lift the sanctions imposed on Syria during the former regime, particularly with regard to air traffic from Syria to Europe and Turkey.
He stated that there are seven flights from Turkey to Syria “per week” following the resumption of Turkish Airlines operations, adding that efforts are underway to increase Turkish tourist arrivals to Syria.
